This is Möbius Keramikk's first season as a vendor. What has been the most exciting is the conversations you have, people you meet and experiences that arise as a result. My first show came with the commission to design a prototype of an exclusive Faberge Tea Cup for Belle Grove Plantation in King George, VA. It worked out wonderfully in that I was able to stay there the Saturday night of the Fredericksburg show. First, the plantation is gorgeous. It was a treat getting to walk through and see all of the delicious quirks and history of it. Belle Grove Plantation is the birthplace of James Madison and from the back, or original front!, you are directly on the Rappahannock. I am pretty sure I heard a ghost cat prowling around. It was a wonderful place to stay with an awesome breakfast. But better yet it was a challenge to think about porcelain and functional ware in a style that is not my own. So of course I said yes! Below are the results from the Prototype round. I am so pleased with them, they came from an idea to finished to this degree in under 3 weeks! I could not be prouder for the end product with the time I had to work with. I am hoping that a larger order will come as a result, but now am thinking of ways that I can incorporate some of the 19th century Meissen, Sévres, Limoges ware ideas and use them a trompe l'oeil fashion to further push Möbius Keramikk into functional sculpture rather than sculptural function. Aren't semantics lovely! Anyway, it was a great commission and one that I hope to work further on.
