Working in traditional clay coils is one of the most satisfying for me. The technique is simple and with practice become reflexive. The history of coiled pots goes back thousands of years and we have videos and teachings of legends such as Maria Martinez to learn simplicity and fundamentals of traditional clay coils. I find these techniques as easily adaptable to create my own psycho-surreal objects and installations that question the line of function, fine art and craft.

Working with clay slabs is a glorious process. For me clay slabs was when I really began to understand the complexities you could achieve with clay. Slabs can be the base for a simple bowl or dish, but they can also turn into abstract sculptures. With slabs when you learn the fundamentals of slipping and scoring and the stages of clay wetness you can create most anything you can imagine!
